Hyundai is utilizing capabilities of smartphones to create a new Connectivity Concept, designed to test new clever technologies to be used in their production models as soon as 2015. The system, allows the driver to lock and unlock the car with an NFC-enabled smartphone and then, once inside, dock the device to activate the car’s telematic systems and to upload the driver’s personal profile — such as seat position, favourite radio stations, satellite navigation history and climate control settings. The technology, previewed near the manufacturer’s European headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany, showcases Hyundai’s expertise in creating clever new technology for its range of cars and expected as soon as 2015. Shown on Hyundai’s award-winning New Generation i30, the Connectivity Concept allows the user to lock and unlock the car by placing their smartphone over an NFC-tag (Near Field Communication), negating the need for a traditional key fob. Once inside, the device is placed in the centre console, which then activates the user’s profile by streaming content to the i30’s seven-inch touchscreen. All user content such as music, phone contacts, radio station preferences and individual profile settings are displayed. In addition the device’s battery is recharged wirelessly while in use. Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Hyundai Motor Europe, said: “Hyundai’s Connectivity Concept showcases the brand’s philosophy of making tomorrow’s technology accessible to a wide range of customers. With this technology, Hyundai is able to harness the all-in-one functionality of existing smartphone technology and integrating it into everyday driving in a seamless fashion. As the technology continually develops there will be capabilities to store driver’s seating positions and exterior mirror settings, providing customers with a comfortable and individual driving environment.” Multiple users can be synced with car, meaning set-up is quick and easy as the Connectivity Concept in the i30 tailors in-car settings according to each driver’s smartphone. Furthermore, the Connectivity Concept utilises MirrorLink to wirelessly access and control personal content through the touchscreen including navigation, internet-based applications and multimedia. Hyundai has already announced a joint development agreement with Broadcom Corporation, which will power the next generation of connected cars. With this technology, functions such as infotainment, telematics and other driver assistance systems like reverse parking cameras and lane departure warning will be integrated into Hyundai’s cars.

The New Generation i30 wagon will maintain Hyundai's reputation for producing visually-appealing, quality vehicles. The company expects the wagon bodystyle to significantly contribute to market share growth in Europe, with 30% of all New Generation i30 sales expected from the wagon derivative. The stylish wagon shares engines and running gear with the New Generation i30 five-door, and has a longer body to create a useful increase in trunk space without compromising the model's dynamic styling. Overall height of the wagon has increased by 30 mm compared to the New Generation i30 five-door, increasing the practical attributes of the car, while optional silver roof rails add further carrying capacity. Adding to its practicality, the wagon's rear seats fold fully flat, boosting carrying capacity to 1.642-litres. With rear seats up, the New Generation i30 wagon features one of the largest cabin capacity of any C-segment model at 528-litres. Similar to the five-door hatchback, the New Generation i30 wagon was designed and engineered at the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany. The New Generation i30 wagon will be available across Europe from July 2012. Worth successor to best-seller The original i30 range has defied the industry norm in terms of life-cycle sales fluctuations by recording increased annual sales over its first three years in the marketplace. Since launch in 2007, the i30 has recorded over 400.000 European sales, including more than 115.000 units in 2010 - the highest-ever annual sales figure for an individual Hyundai model on sale in Europe - and nearly 100.000 units during 2011 as the overall market declined dramatically. So great was the success achieved by the original i30 that it climbed to number six in the C-segment sales rankings - securing a 4,8% share of the sector. Hyundai expects the New Generation i30 family - enhanced by the wagon bodystyle - to restore its growth trend, contributing to future sales success, growing brand awareness and enhancing perceptions of Hyundai among European consumers. The fortunes of the New Generation i30 family will also be helped by the anticipated market recovery. Motor industry analysts forecast that, despite numerous economic uncertainties, the mainstream C-segment in Europe will grow by 7% over the next two years - reaching sales of 2,4 million vehicles per year by 2014. Hyundai is planning to sell more than 120.000 units of the New Generation i30 annually, helping to raise the brand's total sales to 500.000 units and challenging established competitors. 2. STYLING & DESIGN Style inspired by nature The wagon was developed alongside its five-door counterpart from the earliest stages, enabling designers to fashion a coherent form that bears a strong family resemblance inspired by Hyundai's fluidic sculpture form language. Since its introduction on the Hyundai ix-onic concept at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, fluidic sculpture has been the form language for all new Hyundai models launched in Europe. As with the five-door variant, the front is distinguished by Hyundai's hexagonal-shaped grille and jewel-like headlamps, but from the B-pillar backwards the wagon differs significantly. The roofline extends rearwards over the flexible passenger / cargo area, sloping to add dynamism to the car's stance in keeping with the fluidic sculpture ethos of a stationary car appearing to be in constant motion. The overall height of the New Generation i30 wagon has been reduced by 20 mm compared to the original i30 wagon, ensuring an athletic profile. The length has increased by 10 mm compared to the original model. Further enhancing the wagon's dynamic appearance, a pronounced swage line runs horizontally along the sides of the body and rises all the way to the rear lights. The rear windscreen wraps around the C-pillars, increasing interior luminosity and benefiting visibility. The deep tailgate gives the car a clean look and opens to bumper-level for easy loading. Similar to the hatchback bodystyle, the New Generation i30 wagon benefits from an increased track. The bodyshell is 5 mm wider, and the front and rear tracks have also been increased, moving the wheels and tyres outwards to become flush with the wheel arches - simultaneously heightening the car's aesthetics and improving its road holding. The profile of New Generation i30 wagon is given added finesse by the satin chrome beltline moulding beneath the glass house and by the new five-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels featuring chrome inserts. The visual impact of New Generation i30 wagon on the road is also raised by the inclusion of standard LED daytime running lights flanking the grille and HID headlamps. ENGINES Choice of six engines to power New Generation i30 wagon Depending on individual market preferences, the New Generation i30 wagon will be available with an expanded choice of six engines - up to three diesel and three gasoline units - with a broader range of power outputs, from 90 to 135 ps. New, more powerful engines are introduced to top both the diesel and gasoline line-ups delivering 128 ps and 135 ps respectively. The upgraded diesel engine - the highly-efficient 1,6-litre variable geometry turbo (VGT) ‘U-II' unit - will be the most popular powertrain in the line-up. Generating 110 ps at 4.000 rpm and 260 Nm from 1.900 rpm, the upgraded 1582 cc engine will accelerate the New Generation i30 wagon from standstill to 100 kph in 11,8 seconds, and go on to reach a top speed of 185 kph - while emitting only 113 g/km of CO2. The gasoline engines also offer an excellent balance between performance and economy. The New Generation 1,6-litre ‘Gamma' GDI engine features technically advanced ‘gasoline direct injection' to maximize power and torque generation while minimizing fuel consumption and emissions. This 1.591 cc unit produces 135 ps at 6.300 rpm and 164 Nm of torque at 4.850 rpm. With this engine, i30 accelerates to 100 kph in 10,2 seconds and up to a top speed of 192 kph top speed. Both diesel and gasoline engine types play a significant role in the European C-segment, with diesel representing 56% and gasoline 40% of total sales. Overall, Hyundai is expecting a 50:50% split between sales of diesel- and gasoline-powered New Generation i30 wagon models. The addition of Hyundai technologies developed under the company's Blue DriveTM sub-brand optimizes efficiency and lowers emissions for the New Generation i30 wagon. These technologies, which are available on both diesel and gasoline models with manual transmission, include Integrated Stop & Go (ISG), low-rolling resistance tyres and an alternator management system (AMS). Six-speed transmissions for every model Buyers of New Generation i30 wagon will be given a choice between manual and automatic six-speed transmissions, depending on model, with both units providing a refined driving experience and enhanced fuel efficiency. The automatic transmission will be an option on all 1,6-litre engines, while the 1,4-litre units will be available exclusively with a manual gearbox. 6. The steering system employs electric power-assistance and requires 2,85 turns lock-to-lock for a 10,6-metre turning circle. Fully-independent, all round, New Generation i30 wagon's suspension features subframe-mounted MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link set up at the rear - both with optimized geometry to exploit the wider track of the new model for enhanced handling and improved road holding. 7. REFINEMENT More cabin space and reduced interior noise Occupants of New Generation i30 wagon benefit from more spacious interior dimensions compared to the five-door variant, while greater trunk volume offers increased luggage capacity and practicality. Front seat occupants enjoy headroom of 1.033 mm (+12 mm compared to five-door), legroom of 1.067 mm and 1.420 mm shoulder room. Rear passengers enjoy significantly increased headroom (+38 mm to 1.005 mm) compared to the hatchback and improved access to and across the rear seats by lowering the floor's central tunnel by 59% (from 133 mm to just 54 mm). Trunk capacity in the wagon bodystyle is increased to 528 litres with rear seats up, an increase of 113 litres compared to the original i30 (27%) and one of the segment-best figures. The trunk extends to 1.642 litres when the seats are folded fully flat (18% increase). New Generation i30 wagon owners can also utilise an underfloor storage compartment, boosting the carrying capacity. Wheelbase remains the same as the hatchback model, at 2.650 mm. The dashboard glovebox is enlarged by 48% to 8,0 litres (up from 5,4), bottle storage in the front door trims is doubled in size to 1,5-litres and new 0,75-litre storage pockets are provide in the rear doors, similar to its hatchback sibling. In terms of cabin refinement and NVH, Hyundai's New Generation i30 wagon engineering team targeted the segment leaders, and was determined to achieve significant improvements over the original model. Measures adopted to improve NVH included vibration damping engine mounts, fitting hollow drive shafts, stronger bodyshell joints between the sills and B-pillars, double-layer door seals, increased foam-filling in the A-pillars and re-shaped exterior door handles. 8. SAFETY 5-star safety features Safety is a top priority for Hyundai and the New Generation i30 wagon features the latest active and passive safety technologies to ensure maximum protection for its occupants and other road users. Active safety features include ESC (Electronic Stability Control), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management), ABS (anti-lock braking system), BAS (emergency Brake Assist System), HAC (Hill Assist Control) to prevent roll-back and ESS (Emergency Stop Signal) which flashes the brake lights when an emergency stop is detected. Hyundai Blue2 concept is powered by a fuel cell electric system that delivers a stack power of 90kW (1.65kW/L) and fuel economy of 34.9km/l. The concept is the Korean automaker's first sedan-style FCEV. Hyundai did not disclose production plans for the Blue2, which it says is read as "Blue Square," but it appears to be focusing more on hybrid and fuel-cell vehicles than pure electric vehicles at this point. Hyundai says that the name comes from a combination of the company's "Blue Drive" and the number 2 from H2, the symbol for hydrogen gas. Hyundai unveiled its latest eco-friendly creation, the Blue2 (Read as "Blue square") concept vehicle, the company's first sedan-style Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) powered by hydrogen. The automaker also introduced its first gasoline-hybrid vehicle, the Sonata Hybrid, to its home market. Most importantly, Hyundai applied its new brand direction, "New Thinking. New Possibilities.", throughout its exhibition, including its customer-oriented booth design, entertaining displays and cutting edge future technologies. "Hyundai's goal is not to be the biggest car company, but the most loved. We want to be a reliable partner to our customers, supporting their happiness, rather than a company that pursues its own interests," said Steve S. Yang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor. "We will ceaselessly introduce world-class products of the best quality to overcome the difficult market environment and turn it into an opportunity, while modestly listening to the voice of the customer." In particular, Hyundai will focus on "improving quality, creating new values through new thinking, and developing advanced eco-friendly technologies to contribute to a greener society," Yang said. Blue2 Hyundai Motor staged a world premiere of its new concept car, Blue2 (codenamed HND-6), a mid-size FCEV which shows a blueprint for future sedans. The name ‘Blue2' is a combination of Hyundai's sub eco-brand ‘Blue Drive' and the number `2' from H2, the symbol for hydrogen gas. Aiming at gaining early leadership of the FCEV market, Blue2 is powered by a fuel cell electric system that delivers a stack power of 90kW(1.65kW/L) and fuel economy of 34.9km/?. The Blue2 is materialized in a sporty and luxurious style, a combination of futuristic, flowing designs and eco-friendly features. The Blue2 is equipped with low-resistance tires and alloy wheels which are designed to improve aerodynamic performance, while the car's interior design encompasses a futuristic look by using eco-friendly new materials. Hyundai's concept keywords for the exterior design are ‘Intersected Flow,' featuring innovative and dynamic designs. The vehicle's condition is visible via unique and futuristic images on the exterior of the car through outside LED screen panels, which are located on both the front and rear of the car. Blue2 also features a welcome system which recognizes the driver, while an automatic opening door system enhances the driver's convenience. Conventional side mirrors are replaced by side cameras and a roof camera, offering a state-of-the-art driving environment. The exterior designs flow inside the vehicle, with asymmetrically-designed dashboards and doors to optimize a driver's convenience and add emotional value. Wider seats enable people to get in and out of the vehicle more comfortably. Hyundai combined the cluster and center fascia, applying an advanced Transparent Organic Light Emitting Diode (TOLED) monitor and ultra-light tempered glass, called Gorilla® Glass, providing more accurate and vivid graphic information. The infotainment system is operated by a Motion Sensor Moustick, a haptic wheel and motion sensor that respond to the driver's touch and hand movements, respectively, giving drivers a new experience. Blue2 aims to satisfy all the senses of future drivers, including the air they breathe: A cluster ionizer freshens the air inside the vehicle, while antibacterial genuine leather with leaf-shaped patterns, called ‘eco-graphic perforation,' enhances an eco-friendly look and feel. Sonata Hybrid Hyundai also unveiled its first gasoline hybrid model, the Sonata Hybrid, to its home market. The Sonata Hybrid, which made its world debut at the 2010 New York International Auto Show, also encompasses Hyundai's new thinking, as Hyundai developed the world's first full parallel hybrid system and applied lithium-ion polymer batteries to a hard type hybrid model for the first time in the world. Equipped with a Nu 2.0 Hybrid engine, a 6-speed hybrid automatic transmission and a 30kW hard type hybrid electric motor, the Sonata hybrid delivers a peak output of 191ps (engine: 150ps, electric motor: 41ps) and the best fuel economy in its class at 21.0km/? (All specifications limited to the Korean market). The Sonata Hybrid, which is based on Hyundai's best-selling mid-size sedan, differs from the gasoline model with its dynamic `hexagonal grille.' The vehicle also has an `Eco Guide Gauge' on its cluster to help drivers build more economical driving habits. The Sonata hybrid will go on a sale in the Korean market in the first half of this year. i40, Curb, and In-Vehicle Technologies Along with Blue2 and the Sonata hybrid, Hyundai introduced i40, a mid-size wagon exclusively developed for the European market, which made its world debut at Geneva in March. Hyundai also displayed Curb (codenamed HCD-12), a compact Urban Activity Vehicle (UAV) concept unveiled at Detroit in January. Curb, targeted at the next generation of Hyundai buyers, is also a test bed for future Hyundai in-vehicle connectivity technology. In order to promote its advanced eco-friendly technologies, Hyundai built a ‘Blue Drive Zone' at its booth, which displays its first Full Speed Electric Vehicle (FSEV) BlueOn and its electric bicycle ECCOV. Hyundai's most advanced powertrain technology will also be on display - some for the first time - including its 6-speed DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) and 8-speed auto transmission, as well as its 1.6 Gamma Turbo GDi, Nu 2.0 GDi and Nu 2.0 CVVL (Continuously Variable Valve Lift) engines. The ECCOV (Eco Community Vehicle), introduced at Geneva in March, boasts a maximum speed of 30 km/h and can travel as much as 50 km on a single charge in electric mode. A total of five new future in-vehicle technologies introduced at the 2011 CES early this year were also on display: Smart Connectivity System, which allows drivers to connect their smart phones and tablet PCs with the vehicle; Motion Sensor Moustick, which recognizes the driver's hand movements through sensors to control the car's audio and navigation system; Dynamic Cluster, an LCD gauge and information system that is driver-customizable; Car Browser System and Web Platform, a fully functional Internet terminal; and Multifunctional Safety Vision System, a four-camera, 360-degree view around the vehicle. Commercial Vehicles Hyundai Motor set up a separate booth for its commercial vehicles under the concept of ‘Enjoyable Sensation Truck & Bus,' displaying three new models: The New Trago 27t Dump, Mega space-cab Tractor and the 2011MY Universe. In order to promote its future eco-friendly technology, Hyundai's commercial vehicle booth also created a ‘Green zone,' showcasing its electric bus, diesel hybrid mega truck, hydrogen fuel cell bus cutaway and a new eco-friendly power system technology. In particular, ‘Elec-City' is a zero-emission electric bus developed in-house. A test fleet of Elec-City will be operated in some metropolitan bus routes starting this year, while Hyundai plans to mass produce the buses starting in 2013. During the G20 Seoul Summit in 2010, Elec-City was used as the official shuttle bus for organizers and officials. Equipped with three 100kW motors, Elec-City delivers a peak output which is equivalent to a combustion engine's 402ps and maximum speed of 100km/h. It can run 120 km on a single charge. Hyundai also displayed two new commercial vehicle technologies: The Commercial Vehicle Telematics System, which collects real-time data from the vehicle to enable more efficient freight transportation management; and the 3.5t AMT system, which allows drivers to enjoy the convenience of an automatic transmission, with the fuel efficiency and power of a manual transmission. New Thinking for Customers Hyundai's new thinking could be seen in its booth layout and services, as well. By reversing the conventional thinking that motor shows are for cars, Hyundai brought a new concept that motor shows are for ‘visitors,' which means everything should be designed to maximize their enjoyable experience. Hyundai's new booth enables visitors to comfortably view the cars, while the entire space on the second floor of the booth is used as a lounge where customers can relax and get a view of the whole booth. Hyundai is also providing FCEV shuttle bus services to and from the parking lot to the exhibition hall. Staff members at the booth will provide product information using tablet PCs. As part of its efforts to evolve from simply an auto manufacturer that provides transportation to an automaker that creates an auto culture, Hyundai presented its virtual-driving Veloster game machine, as well as a 4D theater showing ‘Robocar POLI,' a 3D animation for children presented by Hyundai Motor, Roi Visual and EBS.</div>

The debut of i40 Estate comes as Hyundai launches its new brand slogan ‘New Thinking. New Possibilities.’ The i40 Estate reflects the spirit of change at Hyundai, and represents the company’s bold new concept of ‘modern premium’ – the philosophy that premium quality and characteristics should be accessible to everyone. The i40 Estate is the company’s first D-segment vehicle to be developed specifically for the European market, with a package of powertrains, equipment and technology tailored for European tastes. It will be shown in Geneva in estate form, and this will be the first i40 Estate bodystyle to be introduced to Europe, with a saloon to follow later this year. Designed and engineered at Hyundai’s R&D headquarters in Russelsheim, Germany, the i40 Estate is the latest Hyundai model to have a purely European identity. Taking styling cues from Hyundai’s ‘fluidic sculpture’ design language, it maintains signature features such as the hexagonal grille. The grille is flanked by two jewel-like headlamps, for a contemporary, confident look that is accentuated by the characterful lines that connect the front and rear of the vehicle, adding to the i40 Estate’s eye-catching, sophisticated style. In line with Hyundai’s commitment to make premium products and features available to everyone, the i40 Estate has a class-leading level of standard equipment.
